One Sheet Text

Dunn's work is a call for the re-enchantment of art and a beacon for a whole generation of composers and ecologists.

This adventuresome CD is a retrospective of David Dunn's music from 1973 to 1985. For Dunn, sound is an instrument for research in deep ecology, with radical implications for our relationship to everything around us., In its thoughtful yet playful encounter with nature, Dunn's work is a call for the re-enchantment of art and a beacon for a whole generation of composers and ecologists.

Reviews

"The music is elegant as is its concept."
by John Cage

"Recently I read Suzi Gablik's The Re-enchantment of Art, where she calls for a more socially concerned environmentally aware art. David [Dunn] was one of the first to visit that terrain of re-enchantment, more than 20 years ago. He was among the first sound artists to consider what became James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis, not just as a pious and trite metaphor, but as a serious principle that would have the potential to change the way he made music.

"This is music which (mostly) doesn't sound like anybody else's, and which (mostly) doesn't correspond to polite or pop notions of musical propriety. It is the combination of sound and idea and context that makes David's work so potent, and an inspiration to a whole generation of radical composers, artists, and ecologists."
by Warren Burt

"David Dunn is at once an ecologist, a philosopher, a member of the new 'science,' a performer, an integrator of human values with technological ones, and an artist."
by Kenneth Gaburo
